Re: Resealing/Replacing Beckson Ports?

Excellent advice from everyone, and interesting reading.
I've printed the article from the link, and will look at it in more detail on the weekend with a coffee/Bailey's by the fireplace...along with my HMP catalogue...

Re: Resealing/Replacing Beckson Ports?

What I find to be funny is that MaineSail's pics of the broken 'dogs' from his Beckson ports look an awful lot like to ports on my friends Endeavor 32'.
I'll grant you that the ports in MS's picture and the ones on my friends boat are probably 15 - 30 years old and likely beyond the expected lifespan of a Beckson port. The life expectancy of the NFM port lights has got to be significantly longer then the plastic Becksons.
In my humble opinion the NFM port lights look better, will last longer and will withstand even pretty large waves crashing on them. The Becksons would probably be fine if you are staying close to shore in fair weather and/or your finances are less then robust - but expect to replace them every 10 - 20 years as they do break/crack/leak eventually.
MaineSail will give you great advice.
Good luck.

Re: Resealing/Replacing Beckson Ports?

Update:

Can I just tell you what a pain in the *ss replacing the rubber gasket is??
First I snapped the gasket, and then I snapped!!!
Uncharacteristically, I surrendered to the fact that I couldn't get the dang thing lined up
properly.
Fortunately, there was a Remy XO waiting at home for me...
We will try again this weekend.
Look for the mushroom cloud on the horizon!!!

K.
