Re: Auto Helm for CS 36

Ideally a below deck unit is best. However we've been sailing with an Raymarine S1-G wheel pilot for the last six years and it steers the 36T without issue.

I figured it would fail in the first year, these boats weigh over 19k loaded for sailing, then I would add the below deck drive. I bought the Wheel Drive kit because it can act as a core pack for a below deck and essentially the wheel drive part is free...

Re: Auto Helm for CS 36

We had a simrad wheel pilot on our 36. easy to use and worked great. Only downside I recall was the temptation to reach thru the wheel to use it.
Have a below deck system on our 40.

Re: Auto Helm for CS 36

We installed a Raymarine X-5 two seasons ago. After some fine tuning and getting the fluxgate mounted with no interference it works well. Suprisingly well in strong wind on heading mode. Also have it networked into chartplotter and is handy for distance to waypoint.

My 36T had an Alpha 3000 Alpha Marine Systems - 3000 General Information that worked very well. Naturally you need to install a half partition to mount the drive unit.

Had a below deck Garmin installed last year. So far it's been a great system.

We got the Garmin and works great so far. If I ever get around to it I'll take pictures and post them.
Thanks everyone
