2GM20F Exhaust Elbow

Mixing elbow went south so replacing it and the elbow from the engine....just put it all new while in the neighborhood. Question - manual does not show any gasket between the elbow and the engine. Should I use some permatex or similar? Does not appear anything was their before. Also use locktite or antiseize on the 4 bolts? Want to get it right because it's not fun contorting myself to get at it
Thanks

I have the 3GM30F and it uses the same parts and mine has a gasket at the block and elbow. It is a thicker metelized square gasket. I dont think permitex would work.

I just replaced the elbow on my 2QM15 about two months ago and it had the metalized square gasket between the engine block and exhaust flange just as badsanta described.

I have a metal "gasket". I put a thin coating of Permatex Muffler / Tailpipe Sealer on each side of the gasket to help reduce the chance of CO leaks.

I'm not sure antiseize compounds will hold up to heat or not. I suppose it wont hurt.

I would have thought it needed something.....when I took it apart there did not see anything and the service manual does not show one. The Yanmar dealer here has to be the world's worst run by idiots....she said it did not show anything on the parts manual. By the way ordered one and she forgot to get it. Used to be great when I could order online most parts and Yanmar put a halt to that. I find it hard to believe there would not be something. Think I'll do some more asking around before I put it back together....especially since it's so convenient to get to. Thanks

I use these guys. Very fast and knowledgeable. They are also online. But I call for parts.

I used to get parts from Torrenson before Yanmar started being territorial. They can't sell in Alabama anymore. They are a great outfit. Was a person who ran a one man operation for years who was great but he retired and these morons got the franchise or ever how Yanmar decides. Makes it fun.
One of the large dealers in town can get the larger Yanmar engines/parts but says Yanmar won't let them carry the sail engines/parts. Marketing at it's best.
Thanks for the info

there definitely is a gasket between the exhaust and engine block. you won't want exhaust gas leaking from there. use anti-sieze compound on the threads. it won't be the last time you'll be removing this assembly.

thanks for the confirmation.....would find it hard to believe there was not one. Was down at the boat today and did a double check....no gasket anywhere that I can see. Makes me wonder if that's where a lot of the blackish stains are from in the back of that area. Never noticed any smoke in the few years we've had it. Be chatting with the parts folks tomorrow and see if they have enough sense to figure out the part #. Always something with them.
