New Exhaust Pipe Questions - Universal 5411

Hi all, I just built a new exhaust elbow for my boat out of 1 1/4" black pipe. I have a couple of questions. First, should I weld the joints? They are pretty tight already. Second, should I use exhaust paint on the pipe before I wrap it with the header insulation?

I guess that is about all I need to find out right now.

Thanks, Bill

I replaced a couple of the pipe fittings that make up the exhaust loop on my 5411 about 15 years ago. Didn't weld them and they are still fine (though I have a complete set in the spare parts bin for whenever I get the next leak). Didn't paint them either. Just tighten them good and snug and put the insulation back and you should be fine.
