Pathfinder engines(marinised VW engine)

I am considering purchasing a 1985 Islander 38C with a Pathfinder engine.
I searched here for some information, and the latest post goes back to 2001.
Does anyone have any newer information on these engines, and any information on the Islander 38C would be greatly appreciated.
cheers Jim

Generally they are good engines and spares are available but, maintenance is crucial and the timing belt is the achilles heel of this engine. If the engine sureveys well, change the timing belt immediately lafter purchase and you should be fine.
