Omatako will become famous soon enough
The exhaust elbow on my boat is made of glass fibre and it works just fine. Surely if a glass fibre elbow survives a Yanmar 4 cylinder engine, an ali one will too?

Where did the data come from that determines that ali is not acceptable for a wet exhaust elbow? It would surprise me.

Mixing elbow

I had an exhaust mixing elbow blow up on my Yanmar 3GMD (raw water cooled). I solved it by having a custom elbow manufactured from 316 Stainless, which is the metal used in corrosive oil and gas processing applications. The original part is made of thin, mild steel and has a mission life of between 5-7 years in salt water. Here's a link to my post on the subject, with pics... Good luck with your replacement...

Did I read the ABYC pfd incorrectly?

Anyone with experience in this? Anyone know where I can get one like this in a material from table 1?:
MMD MMD33067 90 Degree Exhaust Elbow, 1-1/2\" - Torresen Marine - The Sailboat Specialist

P.S. The dealer is NOT Torrensen, and I would prefer to leave them nameless as I have no prior experience with them. I used the Torrensen link because it has a color pic.

I have a 5411 and replaced the exhaust elbow which was made up of 1-1/4" black iron schedule 40 elbows(3), nipples(4) and one street elbow. $29 in all at Home Depot! Had a 3/8 x 3 " black iron nipple welded at an angle two inches from the lowest point of the "dry stack" portion, wrapped it up with fiberglass exhaust wrap ($24 from marine supply) and it was good to go! A bit heavy though, but it should last 4 to 5 years like the first one!

When mine went I replaced it with a cast iron elbo and a "t" fitting 8 years ago with no problems. I have been wondering for years why do we use that proprietary (read expensive) elbow instead of using a t fitting and street elbow?
