Hmmm, I replaced the exhaust elbow on my Universal 5432, which is family to the Westerbeke I believe, and the old one had been iron and the new one from Universal was aluminum I believe. I'm not sure, but I seem to remember it being lighter.
In any case, it was the factory replacement for the elbow I had and so I assumed it was compatible for the purpose. What did you hear about aluminum not being a good choice?
Is it a heat issue in the absence of cooling water? Or is it a corrosion issue, in which case iron is definitely afflicted too. What else?
