Temp gauge

I have a Univeral 25 on my Catalina 36 and the water temp gauge is not operating. Should I test the gauge or the sender or both. In fact I have no idea where the sender is.

Hello,

The sender should be very near the thermostat. The thermostat is on the front of the engine. just above and to the right of the fresh water pump, ie the engine water pump.

Once you find the sensor I would make sure the wire is connected and that the connection is clean.

I *think* that if you remove the wire from sensor and ground it (hold it against a shiny bolt on the engine) the gauge should read full hot.

Pretty sure that's correct. Puts 12 volts to the gauge.

Thanks guys, I will look into it Wed. I love this boat. Moved it from Chicago and doing a month+ live aboard at Apollo Beach Florida and going to New Port Richie to park it behind the house. She will get plenty of use.
