Must be going nuts (me, not you) Apparently the first post got lost in the ether as I tried to attach a huge jpg to it. After downsizing it I think I failed to attach it to the following post. Anyway, in brief: I have two Yanmar 2gm20FC diesels on my recently purchased gat 1993 vintage. The hoses appear bloated and I am afraid theyu may go. Please advise

All rubber parts should be replaced every 5 years if you have no better schedule. Belts, hoses, engine mounts, all of them. That's on the advice of Goodyear, Gates, Firestone, and pretty much all the folks who make them. They can last much longer but ruber simply degrades from heat, oxygen, and chemicals, and they say five years is enough. You've got nearly 20 years on them.

Advise? Buy new ones. Order from a dealer if you've got no other source that can make certain they're the same quality and shape.

Yup that is well past it's 'best by' date. Replace.

Replace all those hose clamps with a good quality marine (not auto) hose clamp (316 stainless). Check fuel hoses too.

Hellosailor, Casey1999 -- thank you. You'll hear more from me as I get into things like fuel hoses, nixing elbows, etc. I have been reading the manual and may go get some education from a tech school! ~~_/) ~~

I bought my boat about a year ago. It has a yanmar 3gmd- looks about the same condition as yours (not to good). Over the past year I have been going through the engine renewing parts that wear out- hoses, clamps, electrical wire/connections,belts, rubber water pump impeller. It is costing some money for parts to do this (use my own labor) , but rather spend money now than have to deal with a break down at sea. Also check your zinc anodes if your engine has these- they reduce internal engine corrosion. Aslo might want to spray some anti-corrision oil on the engine. Mine rusty too, I plan to clean and paint when I get a chance. Use a penetrant oil on fasteners if you have trouble getting off. If you use PB Blaster keep it away from oil seals- I have heard it destroys them
