Universal M-18 engine Hurth Transmission

Hi,
Novice back again. My manual says, to check the oil in the transmission every week. It has convenient drawings of the transmission, showing the proper angles etc., but nowhere does it show where a dipstick is to check the oil every week. I have looked at the transmission as best I can and cannot see a dipsticky looking thing.
Does anyone know where the dipstick is to check the transmission oil?
(I am sick of this manual.)

That is probably the HBW-50 transmission, which is what is on my M-18 as well. The dipstick is on the port side of the transmission toward the front; it is a hex bolt, not a pull-ring like the dipstick on the engine. Should be easy to spot. Here is a pic:

Much obliged. I hesitate to unscrew nuts without knowing what they are! This was perfect. I found the dipstick without any problems, but it isn't the easiest thing to read, is it. It seems to scratch up so much fluid coming out of the hole, that I can hardly tell if the fluid reaches the cut-line or not. But anyway, thanks for the nice pic and clear directions!

I refurbished and repainted the heat exchanger myself; thanks!

As far as checking the transmission fluid level, the correct way is to unscrew the dipstick then reinsert it WITHOUT screwing it in to get the level. Hope that helps.

If you have trouble "reading" the level, roll it on a piece of paper towel.

BTW, to change the tranny fluid you'll want to use an oil change pump or a brake line hand bleeder pump; trying to use the drain bolt would be pretty near impossible. If you can do it, you'll probably be the first person who ever has...
