Yanmar Engine not starting

My 1997 38 hp yanmar engine is not starting. When the key is turned, the oil contact notification goes off, but then nothing happens when the key is turned to start the motor.
I can hear the click of the solenoid when I opened the engine compartment, but the starter does not engage. I just replaced my starting battery with a group 29 AGM battery. So there is plenty of juice...

Is my starter fried? Do starters fail "just like that"? The engine started when when we went to go sailing - 4 hours later....no engine.

Anybody else experience this type of behavior?

Yanmars are noted for having a starting problem due to excesssive voltage drop due to a long cable run between the panel and the engine. The fix is to install a starting relay to reduce the current in that cable run. Not saying that's your problem, but it could be.

The wiring harness of almost all Yanmar engine panels is made from cheap non-tinned automotive wiring.
On most Yanmars there is an engine mounted fuse for the primary starting circuit (constols the starter solenoid) which is the usual culprit for corrosion. Corrosion in the terminal connectors leads to high resistance = low voltage / high amperage. If cleaning up the fuse/fuse holder/connector wires doesnt help, then take a voltmeter and examine each and every component from the keyswitch all the way to the starter solenoid.

Its usually the damn fuse, next is 'carbon fouled' starter push button, etc.

You may have a bad ground or your new battery may not be getting charged properly. Check the voltage at the battery if you don't have a monitor. Sounds like a low voltage problem to me, but these online engine problems are difficult.
