I had a hurth on the old 4108, and it developed a hesitation going into reverse. I had a shop take it apart; they couldn't find anything wrong, but it worked fine for 2000 hours after that.
When I installed the new Beta, they said they would strongly recommend the twin disc over the hurth, as they had had a number of problems with hurth transmissions. The new twin disc has 1000 trouble-free hours.
My original hurth was a size bigger than they recommended for the engine power--I've been seeing a number of complaints about hurth problems--in most of them the transmission was operating near the top end of the load spec.
