fuel filter leaks (or better sweats)

I have got a Delphi 296 fuel filter with metal bottom separator. It is installed downstream of the fuel pump so the fuel pump is actually pumping diesel into it and no matter what the little nag 'sweats' diesel through the bottom seal ring and since the engine is next to my bunk I can smell it and I don't like that.

I evenreplaced the filter cartridge and seals with new one but that hasn't changed anything of the situation.

I tried to tighten more and more but with no avail.

Any suggeston or shoul I move to a RACOR filter directly?

Perhaps the unit you have isn't designed to be pressurised.. Racor filters aren't expensive and I don't see any particular reason why the filter filter needs to be downstream of the pump.

I'd suggest you buy a new Racor filter setup with the clear bowl, install it upstream of the pump and replace the existing with a length of flexible fuel hose.

In my experience filters work better when upstream of the a pump, so they're under vacuum rather than pressure. Under vacuum they shouldn't leak either! Of the boats we look at with fuel issues, I'd say 95% of filters are upstream... I'd move the filter upstream if it were me.

Up stream of the pump any leak is an air leak and your engine won't run right, that said you will find a leak up stream much sooner than one downstream.

i would guess your plate where the seal rides is warped or pitted so a replacement is needed.
