Yanmar transmission oil

I'm wanting to change the tranny oil in my 3GM30F with a Kanzaki KM3P transmission. My service book say to use what's on the data plate on the tranny -- that has oil type as "SAE 20/30 HD". What is that?

An online source says to use "same as engine oil" -- I use Delo 400 10W30.

I'm thinking a straight 30 weight engine oil is okay.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Denise.

I had also found that sight. Sucked a sample out, it was NOT ATF so put 30W oil in on the refill.

SAE 20/30 HD is 'straight weight' SAE 20 or 30 .... not a multi-viscosity grade such as 10W30 etc.
... and YES (For essentially ALL Yanmars) the ID of the transmission lubricant is stamped/engraved ON the transmission plate and NOT what is listed in the 'service manual'.

Thanks Rich,

I'd assumed that it was a choice of 20 or 30 weight oil.

"HD" oils are "detergent" oils, not the same as plain SAE-rated oils.

Most of the oil you'll find in the stores is HD-rated.

yanmar recommends that you not use either the hd or the mixed weight oils in its engines. here in the great alkes, straight 30 weight goes into both the engine and the gearbox (transmission.)
