Cooling Line Replacement

As per my other thread, I'm replacing a raw water line on my Perkins 4-107. It's not molded, just a 1" id heavy hose. The auto parts store has lighter stuff, a seach for "diesel cooling hose" produced more questions than answers. Sources? suggestions?

Hi John,
Don't have my boat book with me now, will check what I used when I replaced
my raw water hose and post...however you want a robust hose (wire helix reinforced/
2 ply spiral heavy wall) as anything less could collapse with suction/heat/wear.
But you probably know that already.

If it's the intake between hull and the pump you have to be particularly careful as this has suction on it so is more prone to collapsing. I bought mine from a proper marine chandler, they sell heavy-duty wire-spiral-reinforced stuff. Recommend doubling clamping it too.

Even the pipes from pump to heat exchanger, and from exchanger to exhaust, are pretty important as failure of them with the seacock open could sink the boat.

Defender

Hi John,

Defender has what you want:

Heater Hose

Too bad you can't use 5/8" because I have 10' of the Trident stuff that I bought when I replaced my water heater. It was too big for my use so it's sitting in my garage.

You can have it if you want.

Barry
