I have a similar engine in our boat, a VP2003, that is without the turbo. Our engine, and that of a friend with a 2003T, has an MS2 gearbox fitted.

You may like to read up on the problems with the gearbox splines, as described by Eric Hyett, who used to have the same boat as I have, but has recently gone bigger.

You may also like to read what Mike O'Brien wrote - also with the same boat as I have (pure coincidence )

My engine/gearbox has been modified.

Rockter will become famous soon enough
It was not the greatest of engine series, hence it was discontinued and the Perkins motor built under licence.
Volvo are a strange mixture of good engines and astronomic spare parts prices, and the 2000 series, that were really not a good motor.
Their engines are competitively priced when you first buy them (they have to be or they won't sell), but once committed to their motor, they think nothing of price-gouging you for spare parts to the point where you will not believe it.
In 1998 they wanted £1300 for an exhaust manifold.... that's about $2000.
The motor was 21 years old at that moment, and MD17C. It's a good motor, but the spare parts prices mean that a meaningful customer relationship with Volvo is impossible to establish.
My next motor will not be a Volvo.

I have a 2003T as well. I need a new oil cooler for it. Know where I could find one?
