Yanmar YSM 8 Fuel problem

My Yanmar didn't have a fuel filter water separator so I added one. Reason being I didn't know the condition of the inside of the fuel tank. I added a Donaldson fuel filter.

After many hours of pumping I couldn't get the air out of the system. Today I remover the Donaldson and the system pumped up right away and my motor ran like a top.

OK something is blocking the filter. Took it a part and everything looks good. Filled the filter with fuel. Nothing couldn't get a drop to flow.

Do I need to get an electric fuel pump to push the fuel through the filter. Its a long spin off on type. If so on the electric fuel pump should it be a low pressure pump? I couldn't find any information in the manual about how much pressure the manual pump puts out.

Thanks for your thoughts

Sent you an email.

Process of elimination. $99.00 filter bad. $11.00 filter from NAPA worked like a top.

Re: Yanmar YSM 8 Fuel problem

After a nice phone visit with the manufacturer of the filter in question I found out that they are not for marine use. Also it requires more fuel pressure our small sailboat engines than we can produce without installing an electric fuel pump.

The reason they are not for marine use is because the drain plug is plastic and this does not meet Coast Guard regulation. If I had the filter install and the CG inspected me I could get written up.
