2GM20F RESERVE coolant tank

I just purchased a 2GM20F and It is fresh water cooled? It did not come with a tank for the coolant? Can i use any type tank or does it have to be the O.E.M 128397-44500 TANK ASSY, RESERVE Tank that the parts manual calls for?
thanks for the help.

I don't remember there being anything special about that plastic coolant tank. I would think any tank from a car would do.

Re: 2GM20F RESERVE coolant tank

The normal plastic expansion tanks that are used on cars are not intended to hold any pressure. Your cooling system should have a pressure cap on the exhaust manifold heat exchanger.

If you're going to use an automotive non-pressure expansion bottle, (and there is no reason why you shouldn't) make sure the pressure cap on the engine is in good shape. Also, maybe just have a look at my response in the following thread, it may be relevant.

No real advantage in my view to bigger than necessary. All the bottle has to do is accommodate the amount of expansion in coolant from cold engine to hot engine and that's generally not much, probably less than a litre.
