Volvo engine repair network

We are considering buying a sailboat with a Volvo diesel
engine. An acquaintance had mentioned that Volvo engines
were difficult to get parts for and repair. He had also said there
isn't a large network of mechanics around the world who work on
Volvos.
Has anyone had this problem with their Volvo engines?

I don't know about hard to get parts or lack of diesel mechanics but I do know they are EXPENSIVE!!!! $420. for a sea water pump. I have a 30 yr old Volvo Penta 2003.

Thank you for the reply. That's expensive!!!
Have you had any other major repairs on your
engine and was it easy to find a mechanic?

Mechanic availability has never been an issue. I had the engine overhauled by the PO prior to closing. The engine had low compression during a test. Since then no major issues.
