If you plan to do any extended cruising, a diesel is the winner, hands down. Lower maintenance, lower fuel consumption.

Take the size of the fuel tank, your average speed, average gph and figure the range to where you want to go frequently. Then you can make a decision.

Diesel exhaust also has a fraction of the carbon monoxide, compared to gasoline. Much safer.

Diesel usually runs at lower RPM, with lot of torque. 20/30% lower fuel consumption.
Extra weight of solid build engine on sailboat is also plus.

And besides, it lowers your fuel locating problems. As I understand it, you can run a diesel on Crisco now.
