Fuel Filtration for Yanmar 2qm15

The fuel filter on my 2qm15 is rated for 10 to 15 microns. Ahead of that I have a racor filter. Is a 2 micron filter OK at this location or should it be 30 microns. Thanks

Re: Fuel Filtration for Yanmar 2qm15

Typical series fuel filtration for Yanmars: Tank --> 30ÁM Racor (if historically the 'downstream filter system' often fouls)--->10ÁM Racor---> 17ÁM (10-15ÁM is ok) engine mounted 'guard' filter ---> engine.

2ÁM is gross overkill, .... will need to be changed-out VERY frequently and/or will 'plug' easily if there is any excess contaminant, and will put an immense overload on the engine's lift pump.

On my 3GM30F I have a 30m Racor then the engine mounted filter. You want the first filter to remove the larger stuff so the next one can remove the finer stuff without plugging quickly.
