fuel stabilizer - again?

Got a boat with a Yanmar diesel 2YM-15 engine start of last season and put 8 gallons of fresh diesel in it. At the end of last season added stabilizer before the boat was pulled.

Trouble is: I don't use the engine much, just in and out of the marina generally, and I'm likely to have fuel in the tank from 2013 at the end of this season. Should I re-dose with stabilizer again at the end of the 2014 season? Have the tank pumped out to start with fresh in 2015?

Any thoughts appreciated...

Overdosing with additives can be worse than not adding them. As a rule, I don't like diesel that gets over one year old. How much do you hold? Maybe you could siphon it out and sell it to someone in the marina who will burn it quickly for half cost? You don't really need to get every drop. Then add fresh.

At the very least one should consider to add a biocide (Biobor, etc.) to your fuel tank to lessen the potential of a massive fungal infection - the 'black stuff' that usually 'grows' in old diesel fuel and which will eventually 'plug and choke' your fuel delivery filters.

I can tell one experience here

came by boat to el salvador with mexican fuel from huatulco...arrived in el salvador with basically full tank

it was a monel tank...20 galons or so.

the boat at anchor used this fuel only to charge batteries about once a week or twice a month...

for a year(yanmar 2gm) when we left for costa rica we still had fuel in the tanks...no additive nothing...

we topped off the old now over a year old fuel with some fresh diesel(with a baja filter) and bobs your uncle

remember useage is the best cleaning additive there is on a diesel

if thats not possible to do use some additive like seafoam or stabil but by all means DO NOT ABUSE them.

sometimes a flush treatment is good for the fuel lines and injectors and system but do that with an extrenal tank.

maybe it was the monel or luck or whatever but we had no issues with 1 and a half year old fuel....
