If you want one that is rebuilt why don't you just get the one you've got rebuilt? The rebuild is the expensive part! If it is just a used one you are looking for you are just going to end up with another person's headaches!

Re: Volvo/Penta MD7A Parts

I just pulled the old MD7A out of my Islander 30: it had very bad blow-by on one cylinder (but still ran fairly well!). I'm parting it out- No fuel issues so Bosh pump should be fine, as is ONE piston. Let me know if you're interested and any other parts... I'm in SF bay area.

Re: Volvo/Penta MD7A

To all posters here -
Contact Marine Diesel Parts Warehouse
I run the MD7a in my Islander Bahama 30 - Original engine, and no idea of original (before me) hours - I have replaced several parts (Including Inj pump) and have found these guys to be the best prices and service by far - they have a great stock of new parts as well as several spare engines/short blocks/parts only units on their floor - they are also very technically adept and know the engine inside and out.

These engines are typical small diesel engines - all it really takes to make them hum is compression and fuel - if they are not running, this is usually the case, and more than 50% of the time its a fuel issue -

Before re-powering, or throwing out the baby with the bath water, give these guys a spin - I'd be surprised if your issues were not solved.

By way of full disclosure, I am NOT connected to this business in any way, but if you've read any of my other posts, you know I do not beat vendors up, but rather share the great ones for everyone's benefit - Fair Winds to all.....

Re: Volvo/Penta MD7A

I recently sold my running MD7A to Joe DeMers at Sound Marine Diesel in CT. Call him at (860) 666-2184 if you're looking for parts or a full swap.

FYI, I replaced with a Beta; the 1977 MD7A was leaking oil and water, and had heating/cooling issues, although it ran great! Diagnosis was bad circulation due to internal corrosion in the cooling passages.
