Once you have compression established then you can proceed to the next logical step.

You said you have already checked the intake for obstructions also don't forget to take into account leaking pressure on the turbo output. I know you'll have to do that later.

You also said that you checked the exhaust for obstruction and also checked the prop and shaft for drag etc and your results were OK with them. As long as nothing was missed or overlooked and providing the compression is good the next thing is to check out the injector pump. I am assuming everything on that engine is mechanical.

I am surprised at no compression test as well. If the mechanic doesn't have the tools to do a compression test, find another mechanic.

I read that the nozzles were replaced by nozzles you found on the boat as spare parts. Are these the correct nozzles?

Before this thread goes into oblivion, I was wondering what was happening? I am sure lots of other people here were wondering the same.

I would like to know the conclusion if or when it happens, not that it is really any of my business but it would be appreciated.

Re: Yanmar baffling black smoke

Hi, reading your 2010 post on your Yanmar headache with black soot.

I have exactly the same symptoms on my Yanmar engine. Spend also a lot of money, with different trials and parts change and nothing has changed.

How have you end of doing for fixing that issue? How was compression test? Thanks for the reply.

Thierry,

Terry Springer hasn't posted here in several years. Reading his later threads about selling his boat, it looks like he replaced the engine with another 4JH4 turbo at some point later in 2010.
