Serial number of old YANMAR YSE8

I have some problem with local YANMAR dealer in Italy because he don't recognize the serial number of my old YSE8.
I need just a confirmation that the s/n of these old models is composed by four number only (ex.: 5234) , without any character at the beginning.
If somebody own this engine, I appreciate this help.

Thanks

Marco

Hello Marco,

I looked at my YSE8 today, and the only numbers on the front of the block, were- 76, then under that, was 2, under that was 21, and under that was 226. I don't know if any of these is the serial number, but it looks like the first part is the date of manufacture. On the metal tag, located on top betwee the motor and transmission, were- Yanmar YSE8, and the letters or numbers- ISO

Hope this helps. Are you rebuilding or repairing?

Hello,

thanks for your reply.
I bough the boat and engine 3 years ago in France, and now I have problem about formal documentation. The Italian dealer sais that the serial number at the top/rear is not valid (but I red somewhere that is right for the older models).
I think that your s/n is 226, because your model is YSE (Early); mine is YSB (Between - I found now on the label) and the newest is YSE (Modern).

In any case I don't find anything on the front.

The engine actually run perfectly but this nuber is mandatory for the insurance (I lost the original documents).

I have all the original documentation about maintenance but there isn't information about s/n location.
P.S.: all YS are great engines and 3 years ago I found in UK an original spare part.

There should be numbers cast in the front of the block, just below the head. You might have to clean the metal off to see them. i'm sure the YSB8 used the same block as the YSE8.

Finally I found the serial number in the front of the block, under some rust.

Thanks Chuck!

Good for you!
Those little motors are easy to work on, and dependable. If you don't have a manual, you can downlaod one at Blank

Good luck
