Engines like people have to breath. The exhaust fumes that filled the area where the engine is are no good for an engine to run on so it stopped. Also if the hose came off it is possible that the engine temp may have gone up and it is possible that there may be a temp cut-out device fitted.
But I lean towards the engine running out of usable air
