2QM15 in Cherubini Hunter 27, anyone done it?

It looks like I have JUST enough room. Was wondering if anyone has done it, knows someone who did it. It's basically the same dimensions as the newer GM's right? What about my prop? I think the current 2 blade is 13x8, what should I use for an engine with double the power and a lower final drive? Final drive of the Renault is 3:1, I'm fuzzy on the Yanmar, the manual lists two, 2.83:1 and 2.14:1. Also RPM is lower, so it washes out I think.

I have a 2qm15 in a Crown 34, disp ~10,500 lbs. We run a 14X8 2-blade. I can't speak with authority but likely the final drive is 2.14:1. I think your 13X8 prop should be in the ballpark. Have you done a prop calc using something like:Vicprop - Prop calculator for Displacement and semi-displacement hulls

Using rough numbers from here:HunterOwners.com
it calculatex a 14X8 prop

Not sure if that helps

I know its a while , but thinking of doing the same thing. Did you swap it for a 2qm?

The width of the aft mounting points on a 3GM30 is a problem for converting from an Atomic 4. PO moved the engine almost a foot forward extending into the galley to get the 3GM to fit in my Pearson 35. I moved the engine back but still 4"+ further forward than the A4 by changing to aftermarket much smaller engine mounts, swapping and reversing aft port mount bracket to stbd, and moving aft port engine bracket to the side of the block instead of the transmission flange. The 3GM is not a drop in for an A4 so be aware of that if you are replacing one with the 2QM. The missing cylinder may not make it a problem but may mean you'll need a new prop shaft.

The most common gear ratios are 2.61 and 2.21 for the Kanzaki transmissions. For my 3GM, a 13x12 prop worked fine. When I switched the prop to a 13x13 Sailor Prop, had to change transmission to the 2.61 gearing.
