Shaft Log Drip: What's acceptable?

Any ideas on what an acceptable drip rate is on a shaft log? It's been dripping since we bought the boat new, and I had it adjusted at the 50hr tune-up, but it now leaks (after working the prop shaft) at a rate less than 1s, and (after several days' rest) at a rate of 22s.
At what point does a repacking become necessary?
I'm working with a marine gear on a Yanmar 30

It should drip 3 to 5 times a minute when the shaft is turning. The stuffing box should not feel hot to the touch when running. It should not drip at all when the engine is not running.
