More information will be helpful. i.e. what engine, what year vessel etc.

Many diesels have a separate cut off switch or lever that kills the fuel flow to stop the engine. Look for a pull cable (like the old choke on cars) near the engine panel, or look for the other end at the injection pump.

But let other Morgan owners know what you've got and I'm sure a specific answer will be forthcoming.

Diesels stop by cutting off the fuel - some have a fuel cutoff handle and some you just move the trottle past idle. The ignition switch will not stop the engine, just turn off the instrumentation.

jackdale will become famous soon enough
Turning off the ignition switch on some boats will blow the diodes in the alternator.

You must cut off the fuel.

Most often true but not always.. our engine - the ignition switch also kills a solenoid shutoff on the fuel at the injection pump.

hello i am a marine mechanic and as others have stated we need to know what engine you have. is there an electrical wire on the injection pump if so that is the fuel solinoid and shutting off the power to it will stop engine. otherwise its a pull cable.

Except on the Yanmar YSE8 that apparently shuts off by moving the throttle past idle.

it is the same with my bmw d12 which means that your yanmar is mechanical injection shutoff not electrical but all this is moot untill we know what engine he has in his sv.

Usually not. Turning the battery switch to off can destroy the diodes, but turning the key off should be no problem.
