Friends have done it BUT be aware your not gonna recover the cost which if you go with a new motor will be well above 12K

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

She was built in 1975. The engine was removed before I bought it. It was equipped with an Atomic 4 Stevedore. Don't know the H.P. My time frame is a 3 year restoration. My budget is whatever it takes to get a reliable power plant into this boat. I live in central Ohio and will be doing the work myself. I am NOT worried about recovering my cost as I am planning to live-aboard and cruise way south of ohio !

I have friends with boats in your size/displ. range that repowered with the two-cylinder Betamarine. They are very happy with the choice.
Beta Marine US Ltd. Distributors for Kubota based marine diesel engines and generators for sailboats, yachts and trawler boats.

The Beta is a marinized Kubota short block, and I have a Universal diesel which is also built on a Kubota engine and it's been a great engine (about 2000 hrs now).

So after checking out the two links, is 11-13 hp what I should use? That seems a little underpowered for a boat this size.

the atomic that was in your boat was about 28 hp and thats plenty of engine i still say replace with atomic 4. I just added the diesel link due to you wanting diesel it would be cheaper by far to put another atomic in even if you have to pay for reman. reasearch here http://www.sailnet.com/forums/atomic-4/
