Open 12 V switch on Yanmar 4JH4-TE
Yanmar 4jh4-TE reduces the 12 VDC voltage from the starting switch to the engine Oil switches, relay or other switches, to 5 VDC. My Smart Regulator asks for: "It must be turned on with a normally open oil pressure switch, ignition relay, or other switch that has no other loads on it to cause a voltage drop or "sag". The switch/relay should produce 12 VDC when engine is running.
I have been advised by a Yanmar dealer not to cut into the harness. How do I connect the alternator "Smart Charger" to the Yanmar?
If i understand you need 12 volts and the motor running ?
The key switch should be 12 volt and could run a relay before its taken down to 5 volts
You could also go with a second oil pressure switch BUT i dont like the extra plumbing and risk of breaking when you start hanging extra stuff
Oil Pressure sender
I have the Yanmar 3GM. If I want to fit a oil pressure sender to the engine, what do you suggest. I assume I want to add a fitting to the existing oil pressure switch but will this extra plumbing cause a problem or break and leak oil?

Thanks for your reply. Could I connect the smart charger sensing wire directly to the ignition switch (12 VDC) without the use of a relay?
