Diesel fuel lines -Universal 3cyl diesel

All: Just having replaced all filters for the season I found that the fuel line from the pump to the secondary (spin on ) filter is in need of replacement. They all probably should be replaced actually. One end is a brass fitting with the hose crimped on fitting while the others have brass fittings (fine pipe threading?) on both ends. If I remeber the lines can be made by the right shop. Nobody seems to stock generic equivalents so will a good marine engine shop be able to make them? Thanks!

My Universal M25 (3 cyl) uses 5/16" hose as fuel line. It has hose barbs on all of the fittings. There is no need to have a custom hose with fittings made when the fittings are barbs. Just use the proper size hose clamps.

I second that. When I re-powered to a Universal M25 last year I put all new fuel lines and engine control wiring. I used marine grade (USSG approved) rubber fuel lines with brass fittings. Got the fuel lines from local marine store and all brass fittings from Ace Hardware. Make sure you get all-stainless-steel hose clamps and not the ones with a steel screw. You will be done. The rubber fuel lines are easy to get, route and install.

In my line of work we use compression fittings for air lines and hose connections. I've installed these on my fuel line connections to the filter bodies with good results. The nice thing is they are reusable without new parts.(washers etc)

I'm not certain this would be totally 'kosher' with ABYC stds, but in industry we use them up to literally hundreds of pounds pressure so I'd expect they are fine for this service (i.e. supply to the injector pump).

Here's an example.. they can be had in SS or Brass and in barbed hose versions too.

Thanks guys! Went with brass fittings with hose barbs for running the fuel lines. I just doubled up (2) hose clamps on barbs for insurance. The fuels lines are low pressure on the feed up[ to the injector pump anyway...

The only problem with the compression fittings is that if you are ever in timbuk2, and either develop a leak, a block (this is becoming more of an issue as they add stuff other than diesel to diesel), or want to reroute the hose through the new filter that you had to buy, because they don't stock the elements for the filter that you have, you're SOL...

I don't believe that the fuel line up to the injector pump is under more than 5psi.

That's possible - though you should be able to recycle any fittings that are either barbed or NPT. The compr. fitting itself (ie the ferrule seal) should not fail unless badly installed in the first place.

Indeed, ours is under suction as the injector pump acts as a lift pump too.

Since reading this thread I've checked the fuel lines on my boat. The ONLY thing not changed when we replaced the tank 2 yrs ago. The hose in there does not have A1 stamped on it anywhere. last summer there was always black residue in the racor element which had me wondering if the lines were deteriorating on the inside. This week i will be getting new hose. (small investment compared to multibile R24 elements at about $30 each. Don Casey's site says make sure A1 is on the hose.

Well there is a distinct difference in the lines I have, compared to the new line. Going to replace the squeeze bulb too.
