Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

I have a Tartan 27 with an old Farymann A30M Engine. I managed to get a line wrapped around the prop and consequently, the flexible coupler broke that connects the shaft to the engine. I've called Farymann and they said the part is on back order. Does anyone know if there are other replacement options or has anyone had one made? I've included a picture of the piece.

there's really no reason to find the original type since there are so many others out there. The real problem will be removing the old. this link is the search page I used there are MANY types. AVG search | Results page

Although that thing is kind of deep or thick, whatever you want to call it--looks like 3 inches or more. Drivesavers and the like are thinner, I think.

Can't give you an answer but can give you a couple of links to try

The Farymann distributer
Farymann Diesel :: North America

The contessa 26 website
The Contessa Corner - A site for Contessa owners, sailors and dreamers.
The A30M was one of the standard engines installed on the co26.
If you post your question there you may be lucky in that every once in a while someone posts about re-powering and may have spare parts left over that suit your needs

Re: Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

I know this is an old thread- but I came across it in my search:

Here is the solution we came up with. Now that the coupler is over $800.00 and was not in stock and wasn't looking like it was going to be in stock anytime soon.

Custom Built Items | Facebook

Around photo 12 through 15 is the set of the replacement.

I did find Sid at Farymann North America helpful. His email is SWatson@farymann.com.

We ended up getting Federal Coupling #441 from H & H prop. We added an aluminum spacer. Waiting for a test run this spring.

Re: Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

I ended up tracking down the part at Sidney Propeller & Marine Power in Sidney, British Columbia. It looks like it is now closed and the gentleman is now working at Vector Yacht Services. I would give them a shot. If that doesn't work, call every Farymann dealer you can find to track down a used one as the company did not have them in stock.

It sounds like other people have managed to make a replacement. I'm not that crafty though. A good mechanic may be able to tell you where/how to refit the old one.

Re: Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

Hello,
Somebody mentioned a company called Massey in a forum somewhere online that sold them at a reasonable price ($320) but I cannot find the vendor. I called them two months ago and they had a few in stock Farymann North America has the part for $760. Obviously they are taking advantage of the fact that they are the ONLY official Farymann distributor in the U.S. I need one and I am half tempted to modify the existing spacer by screwing a piece of pine turned on a lathe in place of the rubber. That way I can turn some spares for a few bucks and keep them on board. There is no way I am going to pay $760 for that part. My motor is a Yanmar and it is not needed for this motor anyway. It is actually cheaper to have a new custom shaft made.

Re: Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

I found a less expensive supplier for this part. Contacts - Mastry Engine Center $440 + Shipping. Part # for A30M Flex Coupler is 159.007.5

Farymann North America wanted $760 save yourself $320!

Re: Farymann Diesel A30M Replacement Flexible Coupler

I have this part, and is available to anyone interested. I paid $800 in 2011, and it saw a year of use. I would be willing to part with it for $350 + shipping.
