Installing tranny on Yanmar 2ym15 ... should I?

I am considering upgrading the Yanmar 1GM10 on my 30 foot Dufour Arpege to a Yanmar 2YM15 for a little more omph. My question is ... according to the dealer, the tranny is the same on both engines. Is it advisable just to order a bobtail to save money, then sell the old 1GM10 without tranny. The savings is around $500. Having never installed a tranny, I wonder if the process is worth the savings. Opinions and advice, PLEASE.

The gearboxes in general tend to be 'early failure' devices.. for the sake of $500 I'd go with the entire package and start fresh all round. It may well be more difficult to sell the motor without a gear as well.

The longer block may well mean shortening the shaft in any event, so you're not saving any work there by keeping the old tranny.
