Contact Ken Roy at Catalina Yachts. I believe they still have several brand new MX-25's they are trying to get rid of. I'm not sure if they are Xp's or XpB's

The oil dip stick IS on the port side on Kubota engines. That hole was simply plugged and the port side standard dipstick installed on the boat engines. A friend of mine bought a used M25 (same as the XP except for a few details and a D850 block) and considered using the port side for his Pearson 30-something.

The marinized version only adds the HX - not a big deal

Buy Kubota, save mucho $$.

I have a M25Xp in my C-40...a bit underpowered for an 18,200 lb boat but not a bad tradeoff since it's a Kubota tractor engine and parts are very easy to find...the motor was installed in 1988...probably 500 hours...need to find 3 new injectors for her...has a new injector pump... everything else just needs cleaned up...new fuel filters...slap in the injectors and hopefully she will be okay...not that simple sounding but something like that...got plenty of manuals/ info about the engine came with the boat... we'll see how it goes soon enough

My engine has been having issues for three seasons. Started with raw water pump going bad, mechanic said it could not be fixed. Called Catalina they thought that sounded odd, but three mechanics laters, it cant' be fixed. Cam shaft stuck, does not turn?? We put on a little electric pump for temporary solution while we figured out what else to do. In the meantime, fuel injector got stuck, had that rebuilt, then after all of this, she still has issues. Started her up this year and she just sputters. Failed three compression tests. Boat is in Oxford. Seems cost of getting engine rebuilt is similar to buying a rebuilt engine (but they want my core in exchange as part of deal). Will look into the Kubotas mentioned and also the crated new Catalinas. If the new one is M25-XPB is that a good choice?

I need to see exactly what we have, if it's an XP or an XPB. It rattles like crazy so maybe it is the "B" version.... need to verify.

Contact Al at Schooner Bay Marina at 715-779-5849. He rebuilds Universals. I did a 1 for 1 swap with my M-25XP from my old Catalina 36. Price at the time was $4900 which included shipping, and they knock $1000 off that if you send the orignal back to them (they pay shipping for that).

I could not have been happier with the engine, ran like new, looked new, literally NO issues with it at all; and the rarest gem of all (apparently) in the marine industry, great and proactive communication on their part. If there are delays, he will contact you in advance to keep you up to date.

(No affiliation, just very happy with the customer service and quality of work)

Thanks creedence! I have talked with Al, right now he is a very good option on a rebuilt. Exploring a few other options posted here, but I really appreciate your great comments on Al's work. He seems like a good bet when I spoke to him about his process, etc.

Did you read my first reply? M25XPB, B means don't bother. Folks with C36s who have them report they rattle like crazy and can't find an idle speed less than 1400 rpm. Don't go there. Please.

See no reason you can't fix yours without having to replace. Low compression? Replace the rings. Did you read the Rebuild link I provided.
