Tips for generator diagnosis?

I have a Mase 4001 with 421 hrs / 5 years old. Starter was replaced 5 months ago. It was running fine until this past weekend when 2 minutes after startup it quit with an E-82 message - temperature too high. Checked input water flow before and after the strainer - ok. Checked oil - ok. Tried it again, same result. Let it "rest" overnight and now it won't give any response to starter at all - seems like an internal fuse went out? Any ideas/recommendations ? Thanks

Re: Tips for generator diagnosis?

Sounds like a sending unit to me. Have u tried bypassing them? Generally this is done by shorting out the connection. For the smarter generators, which run through computers, if they do not see voltage through the temp or oil pressure su within a certain period of time, they shut down. The temp unit maybe turned on with voltage, incidentally, cant remember. If the temp su has failed, it wont bother starting. That is my first guess.

I have an 8k Mase and, once in a while, I need to kill all power to it to let the brains reset or it thinks one of the sensors is showing a fault. Oil and/or temp. Quick reset and she's good to go. Happens about once per year.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
