Farymann Diesel A30M Fuel Lines

I have a 1979 Tartan 27 with a Farymann diesel in it. One of the fuel lines appears to be leaking fuel (it’s damp with diesel after the engine runs for a bit). There will be a drop in RPMs and the engine will almost stall out. Has anyone replaced the old flexible fuel lines (they almost look like nylon braided line) with the metal end fittings? They don't look to be easily removable although I'm not that mechanical.

A leak in your fuel lines would explain a drop in the RPMs.
It is time to replace your fuel lines. It is pretty easy to do actually.
I'd replace the metal end fittings with hose barbs and use new fuel hose with hose clamps.
Moyer Marine carries the Fuel hose, Type A1 (5/16") and the hose barbs but you should be able to get them at a Napa or other auto parts store.

Great, thanks. How do I go about removing the old fuel lines? The metal end fittings don't seem to screw on/off.

Do you have a picture of the fuel lines that shows the fittings used on your engine?

Either the fittings are threaded and can be unscrewed OR you may have to just pull/wrestle/cut the old hoses off the fittings.

This is not the fuel line in question, but they all have the same fittings.

Thanks for the picture. It helps a lot.

We just replaced 2 old fuel lines on our T27's atomic 4 that looked almost the same as the hose in your picture. Those metal fittings should be threaded so that you can unscrew it with a wrench. You may need to spray it with some WD 40, or a penetrating oil and let it soak in for a while before it will move.

I'm not wild about the idea of re-using such old fittings so I'd recommend replacing the screw on fitting with a hose barb and securing the hoses with hose clamps. Notice that there are no hose clamps to be seen on your fuel line as the hose is held in place by the fitting. Of course, this kind of exposure is worse if you are using gasoline as a fuel as I am.

From the small world department, we keep our T 27 (#328) in Nyack, a few miles south of Sing-Sing. It is likely that I'll pass by Ossining this Friday and Saturday as I expect to be on my boat all weekend (7/27-7/29).

This is an easy job. The fuel supply lines have banjo fittings at the end and over the last 33 years the rubber hose has hardened up, hence your leaks. These are not high pressure lines.
1) Undo the banjo bolts at each end of the hose and remove the bolt and the hose.
2) cut the compression sleeve lengthwise with a hacksaw to loosen it. (do not cut through the rubber)
3) use a screwdriver to open the cut and then pull the banjo fitting out of the hose. you will see that there is a hose barb on the banjo fitting.
4) Fit new marine fuel hose (5/16" or 8mm) with regular hose clamps.
5) refit the assembly to the motor with new copper washers.
6) bleed the fuel system.
If you have any doubt about doing this yourself (you do say in your original post that you are not very mechanical!), I suggest that you pay someone to do this for you.
