Volvo transmission Fluid

I was looking to change out my transmission fluid on my Vovo Penta 2003. The 75W/140 oil only comes in a 5 qt container for $238.00.
Do I really need to use the Volvo oil and if so does this oil have shelf life?

Re: Volvo transmission Fluid

No, you don't absolutely need to use the Volvo oil.. but having been though this myself not long ago it's certainly less hassle:

Head down to your nearest Volvo marine dealer. They'll sell you however much you want from a big drum out the back (over here it's $7 per litre..)
