3HM35F Starter

I am planning to purchase a replacement starter then have the original rebuilt (again) to keep as a spare. Can anyone recommend a source for a decent aftermarket starter, instead of just purchasing one through a Yanmar dealer?

Re: 3HM35F Starter

I tried that and the starter I got doesn't turn the motor as good as the old one! What I got was from Spider Marine and it will not start my Yanmar YSM 8 single ,Would love to find an original....Dale

Re: 3HM35F Starter

I think the original starter on my engine is made by Hitachi, but I hate to pay "Yanmar dealer" prices for a replacement.

Re: 3HM35F Starter

Here's the link to your starter on Spider Marine. It's a Hitachi.

100 New Hitachi 12 Volt 15 Tooth Yanmar Starter: Starters &amp Starters

While LSP reports not being happy with Spider Marine, others report good service. Note that the engine mfrs don't make their own starters and alternators, they get them from Hitachi, Nippondensa, etc. The markup they put on the same unit with their part number on it is crazy.

Re: 3HM35F Starter

Mine is a hitachi , but isn't like the old one ,it will not spin as fast as the old one and will not start the motor. If the motor had glow plugs I think it would work...Dale

Are you sure its not another problem like weak battery, dirty connections, etc?

Re: 3HM35F Starter

Same motor, same wires same battery same connections ! The starter does not turn over fast enough to start motor! 12v new hitachi 9 tooth starter S114-134,S114-94 - $166.99 from Spider Marine & $19.70 in shipping! I wish I could get a starter that worked as good as the one that came with the motor!....Dale * By the way installing a starter is not rocket science!
