Universal 5411 fuel injectors

So, I had the injectors out of my universal 5411. Went this morning to put them back in and do some other engine work and discovered when I arrived that someone had broken on to my boat and stolen a tool box that contained not only tools but my fuel injectors and chain plates. Anyone have a lead on any. My boat is a Pearson 30 if know of any spare chain plates too.

Thanks for your help

Re: Universal 5411 fuel injectors

Did you report the theft to the police and your insurance company? Where is your boat kept?

Wow, that is a low blow.

To look at this in its best light you should probably have had brand new chain plates fabricated as the old ones do progressively get stressed to the point where they will eventually fail. Call it periodic maintenance.

Losing the fuel injectors though is a pita and having your tools stolen is just wrong. I believe that the U 5411 block is the same as the Kubota Z500 so if you can find fuel injectors rated for use with this Z500 block they should work in your 5411. The Z500 engine was used in the B5100 tractor (this is important for looking up parts for Kubota engines).

This link will sell you the injector nozzle for $127/nozzle: Universal -

I'd try calling a Kubota parts dealer and tell them that you have a B5100 tractor/Z500 engine and you need 2 new injector nozzles. I bet you would find they don't cost more than $40 apiece.

Thanks Caleb, that's solid advise.
I did not report it, James. It's on the hard; a project from Katrina. I haven't insured it yet.

Re: Universal 5411 fuel injectors

Look for the Kubota injectors. They will likely cost 1/3 what the "marine injectors cost. PM me if you want me to research the part number.

And it is likely that the thief is a local kid....

Re: Universal 5411 fuel injectors

I seriously doubt any New Orleans cop (or any LEO for that matter) is going to round up the cavalry over a stolen tool box. Prolly more of a waste of your time and testing your blood pressure to report it but JamesWilson is a lawyer and thinks like that... funny guy though.

The Kubota parts will cost at least 1/3 of the price of anyone selling parts for Universal engines. It is a racket and a scam.

I helped a friend find glow plugs for his 5434 Universal diesel (3 cyl) engine. Torreson Marine has them priced close to $90 a piece on their website. I did a lot of digging and cross referencing to find the same glow plugs at a Kubota tractor place for about $8 a piece. That is quite an astounding markup, about 100%. Only buy parts for Universal marine engines if (A) it is an emergency and (B) you don't care how much it costs or (C) the part must truly be marinized (like alternators etc.).

I tried to find your injector nozzles at an online Kubota tractor dealer this afternoon with no luck given the cross referencing I came up with. I'd still give Kubota a call using the cross referencing info I found.

I'd guess that eherlihy has found the same ridiculous pricing I have at so-called Universal engine parts dealers. One of us will try to help out to lessen the pain of losing your injectors, if we can.

Re: Universal 5411 fuel injectors

Regarding the theft itself, always file a police report.
Whether your local LEO's are adequately staffed or (more likely) understaffed, their patrols are assigned based at least in part on numbers of Reported Crimes.
(No reports = no crime = no/few resources allotted.)

So, while "minor" property crimes have a lower priority, they do affect policing.

*Sidebar: it's always seemed the height of absurdity to me that in my area most every house has alarm monitoring @ about $30./month, so that a call center located about 1500 miles away can try to summon a local LEO for a break-in.... and the majority votes against fully funding the local police presence. (sigh...)
Multiply that by every 100 houses and then by hundreds of neighborhoods. But all we hear about in the press is how property taxes are "too high."
Human nature is funny, isn't it?

Speaking of injectors, when I needed mine rebuilt, a local company that does all truck work did the job -- they said that there are actually only a few brands of injectors to service and that my Universal/Kubota ones were not unusual at all.

Fair winds,
Loren

Way to go eherlihy!
That is just what I'm talking about.
You just may have helped save cdouglas from getting ripped off again!
The savings there is not inconsequential.
