Replacing Raw Water Pump Volvo Penta MD2010
I have a Volvo Penta MD2010 that has been laid up over winter.
On the first start this year there was water leaking from the 'telltale' weep holes on the sea water impeller pump housing.
I found a spare water seal on board so replaced this by removing the old seal with pliers and then seating the new seal using a socket so it was flush with the back of the impeller housing. While doing this I noticed there was a fair amount of 'play' in the impeller shaft.
Replacing the seal made no difference an the leak remains so I ordered a replacement pump.
Does anyone know if changing the pump is an easy DIY job or not?
The new pump has a threaded end to the shaft that goes to the engine so I guess I will need to unscrew the old shaft - any tips for this?
There also does not seem to be a gasket to the engine block with the new pump so should this just be sealed with a liquid sealant?
