Exclamation Bottom Paint Help

Hello

I am in the process of stripping the bottom paint off of my 1973 Dufour 27. It has about 30 years of paint on it. I am noticing a white layer that has something similar to blisters but I am sure it is not blistering paint(bc dad says so). Any thoughts out there of what it could be? or should I be worried?

Re: Bottom Paint Help

My guess without pictures is its old barrier coat, which may be blistering itself.

Several approaches to dealing with the concern...

How are you stripping the bottom?
- Chemical Stripper, Scraper, Sanding, Sand/Soda Blasting?

You could just ignore it and paint and launch and worry about uit another day but since you're taking the time to strip the paint, if you have the time, might as well tackle this project.

Here is a portion of a thread where I posted how I dealt with our blister issue http://www.sailnet.com/forums/showth...=322678#322678

Pictures of the bottom would be helpful

Re: Bottom Paint Help

I am using aqua strip and its working but slowly. I did think it was the barrier coat but I thought barrier is ususally an 8th inch thick. This is my first boat. I have sailed on my parents boat.
