Xantrex Link 2000 Troubleshooting

This last weekend an E13 error came up on my Xantrex Link 2000. I looked in the manual and it said “Battery #2 voltage sense leads open”. So I checked the violet wire connections to the start battery (my #2) and replaced the 2A fuse. It was all fine until I turned a small load on and then the E13 error came up again.

I then disconnected the blue wire fuse (battery #1 or house batteries) and as expected E12 came up. Even when I reconnected the blue wire fuse the E12 error continued. It wasn’t until I pulled the fuse on the start battery that E12 was replaced by E13.

So I have replaced both fuses (although the old ones looked OK and the Link 2000 was still showing the voltage from battery #1 and #2). I still have an E12 or E13 error depending on which fuse I last disconnected. I have a Heart Freedom inverter/charger connected to the batteries and the Link 2000 controlling it.

Any ideas as to what to look at next?

Re: Xantrex Link 2000 Troubleshooting

I don't have my manual at home but here are some thoughts...
check the voltage at the battery
check the shunt to the link, if there is any corrosion or lose wire, therefore only sensing the negative load on one side.

I.sent mine back a few years ago to have it serviced for I think $300.

Check the wires going into the back of the display unit as well. Very small connection points here. Maybe a few are a bit loose?

Re: Xantrex Link 2000 Troubleshooting

I had the same exact problem a couple months ago. I traced the problem from the battery, through the fuse, to the first circuit board, where I followed the voltage through the little paths on the circuit board and then to the display unit where I got in over my head. I found an outfit that repairs these units, but I didn't really want to pull out the monitor, as it also runs my alternator and my battery charger.

I ended up disconnecting the sensor wire to the starting battery and switched the software to just monitor the house battery so the error message wouldn't continue to flash. It's not fixed, but it doesn't bother me anymore

Re: Xantrex Link 2000 Troubleshooting

Thanks everyone. I also received a response from Xantrex customer service.

They suggested I try a hard reset of the Link 2000 by disconnecting all power and letting it sit for half an hour. I will give this a try before pulling the wiring apart.

The hard reset worked. No blinking errors!

Re: Xantrex Link 2000 Troubleshooting

Just curious, did you try a reset prior to this advice? I tried a reset that lasted about 2 minutes and it didn't work. I'll try the half hour reset. It would be really nice to have both batteries monitored again instead of just one.
