using PWM to limit current to a battery charger?
I have a xantrex c40 charger that will take 48V in, and charge a 12V bank.
the 48V are coming from a second battery bank however, and the C40 has no current limitation (it's designed for solar input) so hooking it up directly will cause way too much current to be pulled and blow the fuse (tried and tested.)
Would a PWM current limiter work in this application? 48V -> PWM 20A limiter -> charger -> 12v bank. I'm thinking of a DC motor controller that has can set both voltage and current. The main use of the charger is to do proper 3 phase charging.
Any side effects of using PWM, or any reason it won't work?
And don't ask why I have a 48V bank, nor why I want to charge a 12v battery from a 48V bank ;-)
