Re: Recommend a portable battery charger/maintainer
Unless you have a specific reason for specifying a portable battery charger, I'd think about installing a permanent battery charger in your boat and simply turning it on while you're aboard and off when you leave the boat.
There are lots of choices, but one of the best IMHO and most economical would be one of the Iota DLS chargers. They come in sizes from about 15A to 90A. I've had two of them for almost 10 years, and they run 24/7. Have also installed a bunch of them on client's boats.
For your battery setup....two Group 24s for the house and one group 24 starting battery....the Iota DLS-30 or DLS-45 would be appropriate. Be sure to get the IQ4 smart-charge option (either built-in or plug-in). A good source for these is Northern Arizona Wind and Sun.
If you want to go first class, the ProMariner and Sterling Pro Ultra series are great chargers, but a bit pricey.
If you must go with a portable charger, the West Marine red battery chargers are very good. They are often on sale for under $100. However, it would be a pain in the *ss to carry these around and hook them up every time you come aboard. A fixed charger would be much more convenient.
