15 AH Deep cycle

A friend has a boat with minimal power demand -- probably less than 3.3 amps (running lights and a Raymarine 435 chartplotter) for no more than two hours. If he had a 15AH battery, this load would only draw the battery down 40%. He keeps his boat on a mooring and schleps the battery ashore to recharge so lighter is better. Any ideas on what to use? Wheel chair battery?

Motorcycle not wheel chair. They are even lighter. Down around 12-15lbs for that size. But he would probably do better to buy a cheap solar panel to recharge the battery in place. They are available from WM for about $40.

I used to schlep, too, with our Catalina 22. 1983 to 1987.

These days, get a solar panel and controller. Question answered.

A solar panel is definitely the way to go. A 10-20 watt panel plus a controller can be found for $100 or so today.

Re: 15 AH Deep cycle

The size of solar panel would depend on the needed charging time and with solar on the boat he could use a considerably larger battery and keep the discharge well above the recommended minimum of half
