Dual battery bank and alternator on outboard.
Hi, I have two batteries. I just took my first cruise for four or five days away from shore power. New boat.
I had them both charged before I left. My solar panel isn't hooked up yet. I motored lost of the way on each trip.
When I returned one battery was at 13.03 the other at 12.31. Ive been using lights and autopilots and stuff. I have left the switch to all the whole time. I'm wondering why one was full and one was at half.
The only thing I can think of is that the one that was full was the battery that has the wires labelled "engine start" to it. Is it possible that the engine is only hooked to the one battery and so the alternator only charges the one, but since I have had the switch to all, the power I have been using has been taken from both?
I guess I just assumed having the switch to all would make the alternator charge all.
This is my first real system. I want to have it right. Let me know if you need any more information to help solve this problem or any photos. I plan to spend extended time away from shore power soon.
