Raymarine ST60+ wind instrument - problems

Anyone got any ideas? My husband's raymarine wind instrument ST60+ suddenly started playing up - he calibrates it, it works for 2 - 3 hours, then all readings go nuts and are invalid/incorrect - so he recalibrates it - another 2 - 3 hours of working, then it doesn't work any more. Any ideas??? Raymarine just says he must take it in to get serviced - but as he's days away from land, that's not possible (yet) - so any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you,
Joanna

That sounds like one of two things: either a bad instrument, and nothing will work but pulling it for repair. The other thought is that the problem may be a loose/corroded/oxidized connector pin. Tell him to pull the connectors off the back of the instrument and squirt some Bo-Shield or Corrosion Block in, put the connector on/off a few times, then try recalibration and see if that works. The other problem may be the masthead unit. They have a five pin connector on the instrument mast that has the same kind of corrosion/oxidation problems.

Good luck,
