I hope you installed a three stage voltage regulator as well, or you won't be getting your money's worth out of your new alternator. It should have a program for agm batteries.

The cruising meter (amp/volt meter) will come with a pretty detailed set of instructions. If it's anything like the last two on my boats, there will be a shunt for the negative cable on the battery banks, and a long set of twisted wires to attach to them.

You really need more than an ammeter - best bet would be either a Xantrex Link or Victron BMV-600 (195 at Jamestown Distributors). They come complete with shunt.

I just installed a victron meter in place of a old style amp meter Big difference Alt works much better as I was able to use larger and shorter cables I do not trust xantrex quality

In my opinion Xantrex quality is good, but apparently their customer service sucks - I have never had to deal with it. Either monitor, or others comparable, will give you the exact state of your batteries, amps going in or out, and time left. Make sure you program monitor for battery size in amps to get accurate results.

Thanks Brian
The info one of these gauges provides in invailable. I replaced a 30 yo ampmeter that caused a voltage from my alt. My experience with xantrex customer service has been mixed. Better to have a product that works as designed
