ammeter wiring

Hi
I have a 20amp analogue ammeter that I want to mount in my switch board to monitor amperage usage from my house batteries. There is a negative bus board at the switch board that is fed from the house batteries. Will running this feed through the ammeter show amperes being used?Is this the correct way to wire it in?

Ammeters have to be installed in series with current flow, and negative bus bars are rarely fed from house batteries, since feeds are positive.

Find either a positive or negative wiring run that has ALL of your current flowing through it to install the ammeter. One way is between the C post of your 1-2-B switch and your distribution panel.
